Eligibility may terminate upon the employee’s termination (other than retirement or death).
Students in all disciplines will be eligible to participate; however, preference will be given to those students having a definite career objective.
Scholarships will only be awarded for attendance at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or trade school. Scholarships will be awarded to those students that are working on their bachelor’s degrees. It is not intended for any student working on their Masters or PhD.
Eligible institutions must meet at least one of the criteria set forth below:
- A college or university meeting the accreditation requirements of one of the regional accrediting bodies associated with the American Council of Education.
- A community or junior college or a college preparatory, secondary, trade, technical, or business school approved by an appropriate governmental agency or state department of education or other reputable agency.
Cloud Peak Energy intends to use a committee comprised of appropriate staff/faculty members of an outside academic institution. This committee will review applications from all company locations and make final scholarship award selections.
Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement (including GPA, class standing, ACT/SAT scores, etc.), auxiliary activities and interests, community involvement, and financial need. The receipt of other scholarships and/or grants may also be used as a selection criteria.
Scholarship Limit and Amount
The number of scholarships awarded on an annual basis will normally be limited to fifteen (15). Scholarships will be in the amount of $1,000. Payment will be made in one lump sum to the college after proof of registration as a full-time student at an eligible institution has been submitted to Cloud Peak Energy’s Human Resources Department.
Students may reapply for scholarships on an annual basis for up to three additional years beyond the freshman year. Past recipients may reapply for the additional years as long as they remain a full-time student and continue to be a dependent of the employee. Previous receipt of a scholarship does not guarantee receipt in any subsequent year.
Applications are no longer being accepted. Please check back in January 2017.
